Gauze rolls are layered, woven cotton that is rolled tightly and sealed in individual packaging. Because this common first-aid accessory is used to cover and clean open wounds, so it is important to consider when choosing medical rolled gauze. Choosing a gauze rollcomes down to a few factors: usage, ply, sterility and quality.

1.Usage

There are different applications for medical gauze rolls The rolled gauzeyou purchase should match the application. As a primary wrap, the rolled gauzeshould be sterile because it is resting direction on the wound. Rolling the gauze rolls around a limb or abdomen will also help as a means of affixing the dressing. Non-sterile gauze rolls could be used as a primary dressing for light wounds, using an anti-biotic ointment, but are primarily used as a secondary wound dressing to absorb any exudate that makes it through the first layer.

2.Quality

Medical rolled gauze is created to make direct contact with open wounds. An ideal roll of gauze should be sterilized, to prevent infection or contamination by the gauze rolls, it is important to ensure that the package clearly states that the contents contained are in fact sterilized and the package its self is free of any punctures or holes. The gauze rolls for medical use also should be sturdy and resistant to fraying in order to prevent any of the gauze from sticking to the cut or wound, which can be very painful.

3.Ply

Gauze rolls for the most part are very similar from one brand to another. The first is thickness, or the number of ply layers the rolled gauze has. In addition, to prevent infection and the gauze rolls should ensure that it is not too thick or too tightly woven, relatively thin to allow the cut or wound to breathe or remain dry, or the gauze rolls could prevent ventilation to a cut or abrasion. The most popular thickness is 6-ply gauze rolls. This is a fairly thin gauze rolls that makes it easy to wrap multiple layers, gaining more control of the thickness in the desired areas.

4.Sterility

The second factor is gauze roll sterility: non-sterile and sterile. medical sterile gauze rolls are provided in their own special individual packaging that is airtight. Non-sterile gauze rolls will be either packaged loose in paper wrapping and plastic cups, or loosely packed in sleeves. Non-sterile gauze rolls is typically used for secondary wrap -- an absorber that backs a primary dressing to take up any exudate should it soak through the first layer. Sterile gauze is to be used in direct contact with the wound and will have the lowest chance of cross-contamination as it is hermetically sealed.

Last but not least, keep in mind that before administering gauze rollsto an injured person, it is important to assess the severity of the injury. When applying medical gauze rolls to a minor wound, it is important to inspect the rolled gauzepackage before use to ensure that the package is intact. Do not administer or purchase any medical gauze used for medical that has not been stored in a sterilized intact package, or there could be a risk of infection.
