Hypodermic needle injection method and location

Publish Time: 2020-06-22     Origin: Site

Hypodermic needle, one of a class of medical instruments, is a very thin, hollow tube with a sharp tip containing a small opening. It is usually used with syringes, manual devices with plungers, to inject substances into the body (such as saline, a solution containing various drugs or liquid drugs), or to extract fluids from the body (such as blood). They are used to extract fluid samples from the body, such as blood from venipuncture veins. Large caliber subcutaneous intervention is especially useful in the treatment of massive bleeding or shock. The following article shall tell you more about hypodermic needles.

Here are the main points of the article

What is the hypodermic needle used for?

How do you use a hypodermic needle?

What are the three types of injection using a hypodermic needle?

What is the hypodermic needle used for?

Hypodermic needles are used to deliver fluids quickly, or when the injected substance cannot be ingested, either because it cannot be absorbed (such as insulin) or because it can damage the liver. There are many possible injection paths, and the arm is a common position. Hypodermic needles also play an important role in research environments where aseptic conditions are required. The hypodermic needle significantly reduces contamination during inoculation of sterile substrates. The hypodermic needle reduces contamination for two reasons: first, it has a very smooth surface, which prevents airborne pathogens from getting trapped between irregularities in the needle's surface, which can then be transferred as contaminants to a medium (such as AGAR); Second, the surface of the hypodermic needle is very sharp, which greatly reduces the diameter of the remaining hole after puncturing the membrane, thus preventing microbial contamination of the substrate that is larger than this hole.

How do you use a hypodermic needle?

Hold the hypodermic like a pencil with the needle up. After putting the cap on, pull the column back to the scale on the hypodermic. This fills the syringe with air. Insert the hypodermic needle into the rubber top. The most common injecting drug is heroin, but amphetamines, buprenorphine, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, cocaine and methamphetamine are also injected. Any water-soluble drug can be injected.

When it comes to the choosing of the hypodermic needles, if your tissue is 30mm, the needle for an intramuscular injection should be 2/3 the length of the tissue, about 20mm. The optimum needle length is 25 mm. For subcutaneous injections, the hypodermic needle size should be one third of the tissue, about 10 millimeters.

After doing all the preparing work above, hold the skin at the injection site where the injection is intended: gently press the skin with the other hand to tighten it. Insert the hypodermic needle into the muscle: hold the hypodermic tightly and use your wrist to insert the hypodermic needle into the muscle at a 90-degree angle from the skin.

What are the three types of injection using a hypodermic needle?

There are mainly intradermal injection, subcutaneous injection and intramuscular injection. Each type is carried out on a different layer of skin: the first one listed above is performed in the subcutaneous layer of fat, the next is carried out into the muscle.
